A brief history of Reiki
It is possible that Reiki combines 30 distinct styles but Usui is the most commonly used form. Usui is Japan's practice of the reiki technique from 1900 by Mikao Usui, the "father of Reiki". Usui reiki arrived in the western hemisphere in the 1930s thanks to the Japanese-American girl Hawayo Takata. The woman returned to Japan to seek medical treatment to heal her personal and psychological issues — Among these were pulmonary disease strep throat and asthma strep throat. Dr. Chujiro Hayashi was a reiki teacher, a disciple of Mikao Usui, and a naval physician.
High-quality research has included reiki in healing practices. Cleveland Clinic has been a source for Reiki research since 1996. The healing art is supported by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health of the US government due to its efficacy. Many practitioners who have substantial reiki training also have massage therapy certifications, as it complements the level of medical care offered.
What happens during a Reiki session?
A Reiki healing session usually takes place in a quiet space where you can relax and be comfortable. Your practitioner will gently place their hands on or above your body and use therapeutic techniques to clear energy blocks and bring healing to the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies. A typical healing session lasts around 60 minutes, and many people feel relaxation, relief, and healing during the process. Group Reiki sessions are also available, at AcuMantras we offer our local community the opportunity to access affordable Reiki sessions.
What is the typical Reiki therapy environment like?
The healing environment is typically one of tranquility and comfort. It should be supportive, nonjudgmental, and encouraging. You may experience relaxing music in the treatment room. Deep breathing exercises and guided meditations may be used to create a calming atmosphere. Before the healing session begins, you will discuss your goals and desired outcomes with your healing practitioner.
Why is Reiki a complementary health therapy?
Reiki is an effective energy practice that complements traditional medical practices and healing therapies. It works on the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels to promote healing of the body and mind. Not only is Reiki a form of self-care, but those who practice Reiki also report feeling more balanced, relaxed, and energized.
Blood pressure, heart rate, and overall stress levels can be reduced after a single Reiki session. Reiki is safe, non-invasive, and provides life energy benefits that serve as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatments. Chronic pain and debilitating illnesses can be treated with Reiki as a complementary therapy.
What to expect after a Reiki session
After a healing session, you may feel relaxed, peaceful, and calmer. Some people also experience healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. Many individuals report feeling more clarity in their minds and an increased sense of well-being. It’s important to ensure that you drink plenty of water after your healing session, as this helps with the healing process.
Lifestyle
Some lifestyle recommendations that can help you to maximize the healing benefits of Reiki healing include eating a healthy and balanced diet, exercising regularly, getting adequate rest, and engaging in activities that bring joy and peace. Making time for self-care is also important as this helps to nurture your body, mind, and spirit.

Studies and Results
A study from "A Randomized Controlled Trial of Reiki Versus Relaxation Therapy for Reducing Anxiety and Depression in Breast Cancer Survivors" by Joon Ho Kim, RN, Ph.D., et al. This study was published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2016. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to compare the effects of Reiki with relaxation therapy on anxiety and depression in breast cancer survivors. The authors randomly assigned 101 breast cancer survivors to either the intervention group (Reiki or relaxation therapy) or the control group (usual care). They assessed anxiety and depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale at baseline and 4 weeks post-treatment.
The results of the study showed that both interventions were effective in reducing anxiety and depression scores; however, there was no significant difference between the two groups. The authors concluded that both Reiki and relaxation therapy are effective treatments for reducing anxiety and depression scores in breast cancer survivors.
